Journeys across the sea

Refugees crowded on a boatOn the 4th February 2016 at 7.30 pm, Burntisland Sailing Club opens its doors to anyone around the Forth who would like to understand more about a particular group of (reluctant) sailors.

These sailors are the men, women and children who have undertaken perilous sea journeys to escape the horrors that are occurring in their war-torn homelands.

The evening will feature an illustrated talk by the well-known local ‘Racing Bandit’ and RNLI Sea Safety Officer, Grant Blair, detailing his recent experiences with ‘Kos Solidarity’, a volunteer group that supports refugees making landfall on this Greek island. Accompanying Grant will be Adnan Miyasar, his ‘shipmate’ for the voyage to Kos – an ‘Iraqi Fifer’, the Co-ordinator of the Fife Arabic Society and a person who does not like boats!

Their harrowing but uplifting story will make messing about in boats on the Forth seem a bit of a doddle!

The presentation will last about an hour, leaving time for questions, for coffee, and to catch up with what’s new around the club.

Attendance is FREE, but, unashamedly, there will be a collection at the end of the night for ‘Refuge Fife’ a local charity set up to support Refugees.

If you would like to come could you please let us know ASAP by clicking on the button below. This will help us ensure we have enough coffee and chairs on the night.
